1. American Cancer Society
Scholarship for
Survivors of Childhood Cancer
Scholarship program is open to any survivor of childhood cancer who
will attend an accredited two-year or four-year institution and
diagnosed before the age of 19, and who is currently 25 and
under. Applicants must be legal residents of South Carolina,
North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware,

American Legion Oratorical

topics for this year’s Oratorical
Contest. Interested
students need to contact the local American Legion or
guidance.
Scholarships may be available for district, state and national winners.

Archibald Rutledge Scholarship Competition
The South Carolina Department of Education announces the Archibald
Rutledge Scholarship Program which offers public school twelfth-grade
students the opportunity to compete for scholarships worth
approximately $4,000 in drama, creative writing, music, and visual
arts.

4. AXA
Achievement Scholarship in Association with US News and World Report
Fifty-two students will be selected to receive $10,000 scholarships,
one from each state, DC and Puerto Rico.
Eligibility: demonstrate achievement in a non-academic
activity
or project, consideration given to other extracurricular activities in
school and community, work experience, and academic record over the
last four years

5. Best
Buy Scholarship Program
Best Buy Scholarships (maximum amount $2000) are available to current
high school seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate
course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or
university or vocational-technical school in the United
States.
Recipients will be selected based on community service and academic
achievement. Applications will be available starting January
2010.

6. Burger King Scholarship
Program
Burger King Scholarship Program annually awards $1,000 scholarships to
eligible high school seniors.
Eligibility: GPA 2.5 /4.0, work an average of 15 hrs per week-40 weeks
per year(employment at Burger King is not required), financial need,
participation in community service and/or co-curricular activities

Me Mister
This program seeks, recruits, trains, certifies, and secures employment
for African-American males interested in becoming certified to teach in
the public elementary schools of SC. This program is
available at
the following institutions: Benedict, Claflin, Clemson,
College
of Charleston, Greenville Tech, Midlands Tech, Morris,
Orangeburg-Calhoun Tech, SC State, Tri-County Tech, and Trident Tech.

Carver High School Alumni Association Scholarship
A $500 annual scholarship will be awarded to eligible high school
seniors whose parent, grandparent or ancestor attended Carver
Elementary School or graduated from Carver High School (presently Dr.
Ronald E. McNair Junior High School).
Eligibility: C average or better; must be accepted and plan
to
attend postsecondary institution in fall; applicant’s parent,
grandparent or ancestor must have attended Carver Elementary School or
graduated from Carver High School (presently Dr. Ronald E. McNair
Junior High School)

Eligibility requirements: GPA minimum 3.0, leadership,
commitment
to community, part-time employment

Congressional Black Caucus Spouses Scholarship Program, Sixth
Congressional District
The CBC Scholarship Fund Program assists with tuition costs in an
effort to enable minority students to obtain a college degree.
Eligibility: GPA 2.5/4.0, academic achievement, leadership,
community service, financial need

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarships
The Kingstree-Lake City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
awards scholarships to local high schools on a rotating basis.
Selection is based on academic achievement, financial need, potential
for success and personal interview. One winner will be
selected
from each school to receive a $1,000 scholarship. Scholarship program
will be announced in March if applicable.

Epsilon Sigma Alpha Foundation Scholarships
The ESA Foundation offers more than 150 scholarships per year for
deserving US and international students who meet the criteria of
individual endowments.

Local memorial scholarship established by the Hughes family
Applicants must have attended a Headstart program

Evans/Gaskins Scholarship
Local scholarship established by the Evans/Gaskins families and
initiated by Shimica Gaskins, 1998 LCHS graduate
Eligibility: academic achievement and financial need

Family Circle Cup/L’Oreal “Personal Best”
Scholarships
Eligibility: female high school senior who makes a difference
in
the lives of others through extracurricular activities, volunteer
commitment and role modeling

Florence Regional Arts Alliance Betty Ann Darby Scholarships
The Florence Regional Arts Alliance annually awards two Betty Ann Darby
Scholarships of $1,000 each to Florence County graduating seniors who
will be pursuing advanced academic or professional degress in arts
disciplines or in arts education.

Foundation for Rural Service College Scholarship Program
The Foundation for Rural Service, in partnership with the National
Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NCTA), offers a national
scholarship program. Farmers Telephone Cooperative is the
local
telecommunications service provider supporting this scholarship
endeavor. Twenty-five scholarships ($2,000) will be
awarded. FTC will contribute an additional $500 to the
scholarship if a student is selected from the FTC service
area.

Future Leader Scholarship
Glory Communications, Inc. has assisted students in the Midlands and
surrounding areas since 1998 through Future Leader Scholarship
awards.
