Eligibility criteria: must be African American, American Indian/Alaska
Native, Asian Pacific islander American or Hispanic America, must have
GPA of 3.3/4.0 scale, meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria, and
enroll as a full-time degree-seeking first-year student next fall

Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with
Disabilities
Annual Journalism Contest
Contest open to juniors and seniors, essay required on assigned theme,
do not have to have a disability to enter
Qualified winner of the statewide contest will be awarded a four-year
scholarship from the state-supported institution of his/her
choice

Harry
Hampton Scholarship
$2500 renewable scholarship
Eligibility: major in the natural resources discipline such
as
wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry or marine science, attend
a South Carolina institution of higher learning, essay

4.
Health Careers Scholarships at Local Hospitals
McLeod Health and Carolinas Hospital Systems offer financial assistance
to students who have been accepted into an approved program of study in
an identified healthcare employment area of need. Examples
are
RN, LPN, PT, OT, ST, Radiation Therapy, Respiratory Therapy,
Radiological Technology, Pharmacy, etc. Contact the Human
Resources office at the local hospitals for more information or view
the hospital’s website. Some information is

guidance.

Horatio Alger Association
Eligibility: enrolled full-time as a high school senior, intend to
pursue bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution,
critical
financial need, GPA minimum 2.0, involvement in co-curricular and
community service activities

Jackie Robinson Scholarship Program
The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides scholarships of up to $7,500
annually to qualified minority high school students.
Eligibility: academic achievement, leadership, financial
need,
attend four-year college

F. Byrnes Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: have one or both parents deceased; pursue a
four-year degree; financial need; excellence in character, ability and
enterprise

O. Thomason Scholarship
$1,000 renewable scholarship

S. Williams Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1987 in memory of Mr. James S.
Williams of Marion County, South Carolina.

James E. Clyburn Research and Scholarship Foundation
The Rudolph Canzater Memorial Golf Classic generates proceeds to help
fund college scholarships for needy students. Contact

Jane
E. Hunter Scholarship
This scholarship was established to provide need- based financial
assistance for full-timeminority undergraduate women under the age of
30, who are residents of South Carolina and Ohio.
Eligibility: females from SC and Ohio with financial need, GPA 2.5/4.0

Joseph C Rodgers Memorial Fund Scholarship
The Joseph C. Rodgers Scholarship Foundation was established after the
death of Deputy Joey Rodgers on April 9, 1997. Joey was
killed in
the line of duty while apprehending a double murder suspect in
Florence. Eligibility: actively participate as a volunteer
for a
community service organization or pursue a degree in a criminal justice
or related field, GPA minimum 2.5, academic achievement and financial
need considered

13.
KEY
Scholarship
Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union, Horry Telephone Cooperative, and
104.9 BAB FM partner to offer scholarships to graduating high school
seniors within Horry, Georgetown, Marion, Williamsburg and the southern
part of Florence County.
Applications are available in guidance in January.
Eligibility: GPA 3.0, acceptance by Coastal Carolina or
Francis

KFC
Colonel’s Scholars
The Colonel Scholars program is looking for outstanding seniors with
financial need and entrepreneurial spirit. Awards are up to
$20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board.
Eligibility: GPA minimum 2.75, pursue four-year degree,
enroll in
public college/university in South Carolina, demonstrate financial need

15.
Kids’ Chance Scholarships
This program is open to students between the ages of 16 and 25 who are
dependent upon someone who has been seriously or fatally injured as a
result of a work-related accident or occupational dieses. To
qualify for a South Carolina scholarship, the worker must have been
injured while working for a South Carolina employer or as a
self-employed resident of South Carolina. The death or injury
must have resulted in a substantial decline in family income, and the
student must meet acceptable academic standards. Contact information:

Kittie M. Fairey Scholarship Program
Eligibility: GPA minimum 3.0/4.0, SAT 1800 (CR+M+W) /ACT 26, must
attend accredited college or university in South Carolina and seek
bachelor’s degree, household adjusted gross income of parents
not
to exceed $40,000, academic achievement and financial need

17.
Lake
City Lodge #1680, Harriett Tubman Temple #1320 Oratorical
Program Scholarships
The Lake City Lodge and Harriet Tubman Temple of the Improved
Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks of the World sponsor an annual
local oratorical contest in January. Monetary rewards are
available for winners, and local contest winner is eligible to compete
in District and/or State Contest for additional scholarship
opportunities. Interested juniors and seniors need to apply in guidance
before December 15th.
18.
LeTendre Fund Scholarship
This fund provides scholarship assistance to students who are homeless
or who have experienced homelessness and who have demonstrated average
or higher than average achievement. Students who have not reached their
21st birthday by September 1, 2009 and who have completed less than one
year of college are eligible to apply. Applicants may be high
school juniors or seniors.

Lions Scholarship Sponsored by Zone 2B, District 32C Lions
Eligibility: applicant must be resident of Olanta, Pamplico,
or
active Leo Club member at West Florence High School.
Applicant
must be a senior at Lake City, Hannah Pamplico, or West Florence High
School who has applied and been accepted to Francis Marion
University. GPA minimum 2.5, community service
